About Us
In 2012 Mike Acosta and Brittany Streufert talked about starting a 5K race to benefit the community in which they both lived. At Viera Pizza, Mike loved the support his local customers gave his business and how fast it was growing. It made him want to give back. Enter Brittany who eats pizza every Friday. She had gotten to know Mike from running local races and picking up her order each week. When he casually mentioned the 5K idea she told him to go for it, not knowing he had already designated the race director spot for her.
Despite the two not having any race management experience, the Eat My Crust 5K was born.
After six successful Eat My Crust 5K events, Mike & Brittany had given over $100,000 to the Viera High School Athletic Department, Special Olympics of Brevard County and the Early Steps program through Viera Pizza. The next step was to launch a nonprofit organization called Power of Pizza Charities or “POP” for short to further the mission of giving back to the Brevard County community. POP is now fully operational with a 501(c)3 status, a board of directors and a full schedule of fundraising events on the calendar.
POP’s goal is the same as Mike and Brittany’s original one.
Make an impact in the community. Let’s see how far we can go!
